CITRUS COUNTY

Located in the heart of Florida's Nature Coast Citrus County boasts of unspoiled Gulf waters, forest lands, rolling hills, crystal clear springs, winding rivers and numerous lakes.  It's  no wonder it is often referred to as "Mother Nature's Theme Park".

History is alive and well in Inverness' Olde Town presided over by the county's turn-of-the-century courthouse.  The canopied streets of Floral City are bordered by historic buildings from the 1880's to the 1920's.  Archaelogical digs and Indian Mounds are waiting to be explored.

Wildlife is abundant with many protected and endangered species calling Citrus County home.  Watch the Sand Hill Cranes as they raise their family. Or swim with the West Indian Manatee.  Citrus County is home to the largest population and the only place in the United States where it is legal to interact with them in nature.

The Withlacoochee River borders the county to the north and east.  The Tsala Apopka Chain of lakes (Seminole for "good fishing") also lie in the eastern part of the county and the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico form the western shore.
