CITY OF HAWKINSVILLE
UNDERWATER ARCHEOLOGICAL PARK
The City of Hawkinsville was a 141 feet long by 30 feet wide paddle steamboat that delivered cargo and lumber along the Suwannee River from 1900 until 1922. Unable to operate profitably after railroad construction the ship's captain sank the boat in the middle of the river.
It became the third Florida Underwater Archaeological Preserve in 1992. Located 100 yards south of the Old Town railroad trestle there is no entrance fee to view the City of Hawkinsville either above or below water. The site is open to the public year-round.
