Hernando County covers 312,000 acres on Florida's Nature Coast and boarders the Gulf of Mexico. Its diverse lifestyle spanning the convenience of city living along side the natural beauty of "Old Florida" has contributed to its tremendous growth rate.  Whether you enjoy the hustle and bustle of new shopping meccas, agricultural spanses, forested woodlands or backyard boat docks you'll find it here.

The county park system, with more than 20 developed parks offer boundless recreational activities.  Multi-functional sports complexes are interspersed with 945 acres of open space for quiet contemplation.

This 'nature lover's playground' is home to the 6,000 acre Weeki Wachee Preserve with miles of the Weeki Wachee River, part of the Mud River and numerous rock quarries for fishing.

Easy access to boat ramps for both fresh and salt water is the fisherman's delight.

The Withlacochee State Forest provides a venue for the hunter, biker, hiker or horseback rider.

But there's more to Hernando County than nature and water.  History is alive and well here:

Visit Brooksville with its brick-lined streets and old plantation homes.

View the city wall murals as you traverse its avenues.

Visit the Russell Street Train Depot built in 1885 and the pre-civil war dining car.

The Brooksville Raid is re-enacted every January

Weeki Wachee Springs  "The City of Live Mermaids" has been a major Hernando County attraction since 1947.  From this first magnitude spring flows the waters of the Weeki Wachee River to the Gulf of Mexico and is the backdrop for Buccaneer Bay water park.

Why not have your picture taken with one of the mermaids?
