OPERA HOUSE

Built in 1890 by John H. Perkins this two story building is home today for the Monticello Opera Company.  The second floor boasts the largest stage in the region.

MONTICELLO HISTORIC DISTRICT

Located in Monticello this U.S. Historic District (designated on August 19, 1977) contains 41 historic buildings in an irregular area along Madison, Jefferson, Dogwood and Washington Streets.

LLOYD HISTORIC DISTRICT

Located in Lloyd, and designated a
U.S. Historic District on September 5, 1991, this district runs along Main Street north of Bond Street and Bond Street east of Main housing 18 buildings.

FORTS OF JEFFERSON COUNTY

► Fort Roger Jones (1839) Aucilla Ferry, North of U.S. 90.

► Fort Noel (1839 - 1842) South of Lamont on the Aucilla River, 6 miles NW ofrt Pleasant in Taylor County.

► Camp Carter (1838) near Waukeenah.

► Fort Welaunee (1838) Settlers' fort on the Welaunee Plantation near Wacissa.
     Fort Gamble (1839 - 1843) was also established here.

► Fort Aucilla (1843) 2 miles SE of Fort Gamble, between the Aucilla and Wacissa
     Rivers.

► Fort Wacissa (1838) Settlers' fort located south of Wacissa on the Wacissa River, west of Cabbage Grove.
