AUCILLA WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA

Located in both Jefferson and Taylor counties the main entrance is at Western Sloughs about 3.5 miles east of Hwy 59 & 98 intersection.  Two rivers, the Aucilla and the Wacissa, are the most distinctive features of this management area.  However its 47,532 acres provide ample hiking opportunities for wildlife and nature viewing

ST. MARKS NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE

Established in 1931 to provide wintering habitat for migratory birds the St. Marks National Willdlife Refuge is one of the oldest in the system.  Encompassing 68,000 acres in Wakulla, Jefferson, and Taylor counties its diverse natural communities including both fesh & brackisk water marshes, islands, tidal creeks, upland forests and forested swamps.
