AUCILLA RIVER

The Aucilla River runs 75 miles from Thomasville, Georgia to the Gulf of Mexico at Apalachee Bay.  Along the way it forms the eastern border of Jefferson County and is the subject of the Aucilla River Prehistory Project.

WACISSA RIVER

Located in south central Jefferson County this large, spring-fed stream flows approximately 12 miles before joining the Aucilla River.  It is used exclusively for recreational purposes as it leaves the headsprings just south of Wacissa and meanders through a broad cypress swamp.

LAKE MICCOSUKEE

East of the town of Miccosukee in northern Jefferson County is an active sink hole lake forming the northern border between Jefferson and Leon Counties.  Lake Miccosukee is a large swampy lake representing the actual surface of the Floridan Aquifer.
