MARION COUNTY

Although the entire county of Marion is not considered part of the Nature Coast, the town of Dunnellon is.  Information covered in this website for Marion County is limited to Dunnellon only. Dunnellon is located at the confluence of the Rainbow River and the Withlacoochee River making eco-tourism the major industry in the town. For the fishermen the Withlacoochee River and Lake Rousseau have created the "Bass Capital of Florida."

Rich in history, many of the 70 historically significant buildings in the Boomtown District are Victorian mansions converted to commercial use.  Antique shops, gift shops, restaurants and more beckon you back to another time.  Dunnellon's small town simplicity resides well with its back to nature atmosphere.
