WAKULLA COUNTY
Wakulla County stands out in its near absence of any municipal population. Two small towns hold about 3 percent of the county population. The county seat of Crawfordville is the only unincorporated county seat in Florida.
It has one seaport at St. Marks primarily used by commercial fishermen and recreational boaters.

Thought to be Florida's last wood-framed courthouse still in use the Old Wakulla County Courthouse has today been restored and is in use as the county library. Its steeply pitched roof with four intersecting gables and central belvedere add character to its simple frame.

A list of "firsts" exists in Wakulla County. Florida's first designated state trail follows the railbed of the historic Tallahassee-St Marks Railroad line. This railroad was the first under construction in Florida and the first in the nation to receive a federal land grant.
At San Marcos de Apalache, located at the confluence of the Wakulla and St. Marks Rivers, the first ships made by white men in the New World were built and launched.
